Boulstrup-Hou Cogeneration Plant
CO2-neutral heat from local straw
When Boulstrup-Hou CHP plant needed to expand its capacity in 2016, it was again with Linka as the total supplier of a complete new hall system.
The East Jutland CHP plant has supplied heat to the Boulstrup-Hou area, south of Aarhus, for over 20 years. Since 2009, the heat has come from a Linka hall system. The heating plant has over 650 consumers, including several large consumers.
In 2009, Linka supplied a 950 kW straw heating plant to Boulstrup-Hou, which switched to straw to offer its users CO2 neutral heat.
With a desire to double its capacity, Boulstrup-Hou was due to replace its previous hall facility with a new, larger facility in 2016.
Back in 2013, the heating plant replaced its then existing straw opener with the larger TWIN opener and 24-metre double halyard. These had to be adapted to the new plant in order to be reused. The straw for the plant continues to be supplied by local suppliers.
As general contractor, Linka was responsible for the supply of a new boiler plant, as well as the construction of a new boiler room and the conversion of the existing building of the heating plant, which had to be adapted to the new, larger plant.
The plant
The new hall plant at Boulstrup-Hou consists of a 2,000 kW Linka H boiler, designed for a maximum operating pressure of 6 bar. The built-in trapper bar and Lina's patented combustion technology ensure total combustion of the straw. A bag filter is also installed for the plant, where the flue gases are cleaned to reduce dust.
By adding an automatic string puller to the existing straw bed, a higher degree of automation is achieved at the plant. The straw field has been filled manually in the past, but this has resulted in two daily refills of the field. Therefore, in June 2017, Linka installed a straw crane, which ensures a lower operating requirement as the lane is automatically filled.
An external ash container, located outside the building, has been installed for the plant. The ash is automatically transported from the boiler to this container.
