New biomass plant ensures maximum use of resources
In the summer of 2017, Linka commissioned a new biomass plant at Hornsyld Købmandsgård, which will in future supply heat to the company's factory in Hornsyld.
Hornsyld Købmandsgård is a large grocery company engaged in the trade of groceries and oil as well as the production of soy protein. In addition, it operates a timber loading business and a number of petrol stations.
The company has previously received heat from a 400 kW Linka boiler, but with the company's investment in the protein production TripleA, a larger plant has been necessary.
The new boiler plant is installed in the existing boiler room of the Merchant's Farm, and is therefore dimensioned according to this framework.
The heat will primarily be used for process heat in protein production in TripleA and for pre-heating water for a steam boiler in feed production.
By using grain milling, the company makes optimal use of resources, as the waste is burned rather than disposed of. It is also a CO2 neutral fuel that benefits the environment.
The plant
The plant consists of a 2,000 kW Linka H boiler, designed for firing with grain cleaner. The boiler is also supplied with a multicyclone, bag filter and 20-metre chimney. The boiler is connected to an existing scraper system for fuel supply.
The new boiler is far more efficient than the old one, which Linka installed back in 2002. This means that the boiler, when starting the process in TripleA, heats the water in half the time compared to the old wood pellet boiler that previously supplied the department.
Operators have previously been challenged by slag formation in the old boiler, which has meant additional operational work of up to an hour a day and the addition of chalk to limit this slag formation. Linka's world-patented technology has overcome this problem in new boilers, so chalk addition is no longer necessary and slag formation is extremely limited.
The PLC control makes it easy to access the plant and thereby control the operation. Internet connectivity with remote access to the controller allows Linka to access the plant and troubleshoot alarms. An automatic ash system transports the ash from the boiler to a 20 m3 ash container, using ash augers.
In addition to the biomass plant, a complete oil back-up is installed in a container, next to the boiler room. This ensures constant heat, for example during servicing.
