Later, in 2011, the facility installed a combined wood chip and pellet boiler with a capacity of 2.0 MW to ensure a consistent supply of heat to Lohals town throughout the year.<\/p>\n

When the straw boiler from 1992 reached the end of its \u201clife\u201d, Lohals Varmeforsyning and Linka Energy entered a new agreement in 2022 for the delivery of a complete 2.5 MW straw-fired system with a hot water boiler. In the boiler’s combustion chamber, a movable grate is installed to minimize slag formation, and the combustion technology system is Linka’s own globally patented system.<\/p>\n

Additionally, a new 15-meter-long straw table with an automatic Linka\u00ae string remover, a Linka\u00ae TWIN shredder (model 120), straw conveyor, boiler with grate, ash system, flue gas recirculation, and a new boiler control system have been supplied. When heat is “called for,” the boiler’s firing procedure is initiated. This means that the boiler’s stoker screw starts. Once the stoker screw is in operation, the straw conveyor and straw shredder start, and the fuel system will now supply the boiler with the appropriate amount of straw for the installed boiler capacity.<\/p>\n

The flue gas from the boiler passes through a multicyclone and the existing bag filter, from which the flue gas is directed through the existing filter and further to the new frequency-controlled flue gas fan before being released through the existing chimney. The ash is transported to a new ash container. The control of the system is managed through a PLC control system that monitors the system and sends alarms via the internet and SMS. It will also be possible to monitor the system via smartphones, tablets, and\/or PCs.<\/p>\n
