Replacement of outdated biomass system: Linka® 400 kW wood chip boiler increases efficiency and reduces CO₂.
Mellby Gård Jordbruk AB has made a strategic decision to invest in a new biomass boiler solution for the farm’s heating supply.
This marks the third biomass boiler from Linka Energy installed at their production units – reflecting both trust in the technology and the aim of securing a reliable and consistent heating solution.
The background for this investment is the wish to make better use of local resources, strengthen sustainability in daily operations, and at the same time optimise efficiency in heat production.
The previous boiler was also chip-fired, but with lower efficiency and outdated technology, which resulted in higher fuel consumption and increased operational effort.
Choosing a new solution not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels but also improves utilisation of existing biomass while ensuring more stable and efficient operation.
The farm has large amounts of organic residue from both forestry and agricultural activities, making biomass an obvious and circular energy source.
The new boiler was installed in the existing heating plant, where an older chip boiler previously provided a significant part of the heat supply. As a prerequisite for installation, the farm dismantled the old boiler themselves, creating space for a more future-proof and climate-friendly solution.
By producing heat on-site with modern technology, the farm ensures a stable and economically advantageous energy supply – with lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact. The project fits well into the farm’s long-term ambitions for self-sufficiency and practical green transition.

The plant.
The system was delivered turnkey by Linka Energy, covering design, delivery, installation, and commissioning of a 400-kW biomass heat-production plant. The boiler – a Linka® H model – is a 3-pass hot water boiler with cylindrical fire-tube design and an integrated, water-cooled step grate. It employs Linka’s patented parallel flow combustion principle to maximise efficiency, energy utilisation, and minimise slag and particle emissions.
Wood chips (up to 35% moisture) are automatically fed to the boiler via a stoker auger, with feed rate regulated by an oxygen (O₂) sensor.
Fuel is stored in a 20-foot Linka fuel container with a hydraulic walking floor and integrated scraper conveyor, reliably delivering chips to the boiler. Such scraper systems are standard in Linka’s wood chip installations.
Flue gases are cleaned in a multicyclone before being drawn out by a frequency-controlled flue gas fan and led out through the existing chimney. The system includes automatic compressed-air flue-tube cleaning, reducing manual maintenance.
Ash handling is fully automatic via integrated augers conveying both bottom ash and multicyclone ash to an existing ash container.
The scope of supply also included a new 400 kW heat exchanger, a frequency-controlled distribution pump, flue gas duct insulation, and upgraded district heating pipes.


Operation is controlled via an advanced PLC system with internet connectivity, remote monitoring, and SMS alarm capabilities. The plant can operate unattended for up to 72 hours and is accessible via computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Linka Energy completed the installation, delivering a plant that is approved, handed over, and ready for reliable operation.
