Bioenergy is sustainable energy because it uses the energy stored in organic matter or biomass. The energy comes from sunlight, which the plants use to grow. Photosynthesis converts CO2 (carbon dioxide) and water into sugar (glucose) and oxygen. When the biomass is burned, this energy is used to produce heat.
