Mobile plant provides CO2 neutral heating
Linka Energy installed a mobile plant for Fugleaasen Business Park, which supplies the large area with CO2 neutral heating. Fugleaasen is a large industrial business park located south of Oslo. The area consists of a transportation- and logistics centre, as well as several industrial companies. Around 75,500 m2 is already in use, and the area is expected to grow to consist of up to 200,000 m2 business development. The plant container is built at Linka’s facilities in Denmark before being shipped to Fugleaasen for commissioning. This ensures that the plant is operational soon after arrival to the construction site. A mobile solution offers high flexibility as the plant can be moved our expanded if necessary. In 2017 the heating plant is expanded with additionally 1,500 kW by installing a used container solution from Lahaugmoen Business Park. The two containers combined will accommodate the areas heating demand of 8 GWh per year. The mobile plant consists of a 2,000 kW Linka H boiler, designed for firing with wood pellets. A moveable step grate is installed inside the boiler, which helps prevent formation of clinker. Outside the container a 90 m3 fiberglass silo is installed. The pellets are transported from the silo to the boiler by auger. An automatic ash removal system transports the ash from the boiler to a 3 m3 ash container placed outside the plant container. In addition to the biomass boiler a 2,000 kW oil boiler is installed as a backup, which can be used during service or in case of failure.

Sustainable steam for Scottish dairy
In 2017 our British partner, Manco Energy, installed a steam plant at a dairy in Scotland. The dairy is now producing steam from CO₂ neutral biomass. The boiler can produce 1.5 tons of steam every hour.
Yester Farm Dairies is a family-owned dairy based outside Edinburgh. The farm produces different dairy products, primarily cheese and milk. They have 27 employees and a turnover of £4.5 million.
The farm needed a new boiler system due to an increased need for steam. The new biomass plant replaces two old boilers, based on gas and oil.
As the new biomass plant was installed in an existing barn, the system needed to be designed to fit the space restrictions.
Yester Farm is burning both wood chips and granulated bio pellets. These are cheap fuel sources and allow the dairy to switch fuel depending on availability and prices. This ensures a high flexibility regarding fuel.
The plant
Linka delivered a complete 1,000 kW steam plant, designed for an operating pressure of 12 bar. The boiler can produce 1.5 tons of steam every hour.
The boiler is designed for burning wood chips and other granulated bio fuels. The fuel is stored on a 30 m2 walking floor system with 5 scraper arms, which move the fuel to a sunken auger. It is then transported to the boiler by additional augers.
By adding an economiser, additional heat is extracted from the flue gas, which increases the efficiency of the boiler.
An automatic ash system transports ash from the boiler to an ash container, located outside the barn. The installed PLC control unit monitors the entire boiler system, and ensures a constant, controlled regulation of the fuel supply, to maintain maximum heating output.
